SUBJECT: Castle Courier Vol. 17, No. 8 - Nov 5, 2018

Volume XVII, Issue 8 - November 5, 2018

Hello,

Rain, rain, go away, our students miss outdoor recess and want to play! We always need rain here in Texas but personally I think we have enough. At least with the rain cooler temperatures should hopefully be heading our way. Well enough about the weather…

We have been really busy here at “The Castle” since my last PTA article.  I had another wonderful Coffee with 4th grade parents and 3rd Grade Coffee The input and suggestions have been fantastic. I will complete my fall Coffees with 2nd and 1st grade in November.  Kindergarten parents, I am not leaving you out.  Your Coffee with me will be scheduled when we return from the holiday break.

Lots of learning of course continues to take place. Our everyday learning has been enhanced with visits from High Touch High Tech (1st grade), Barry Lane, and a Shakespearean production (4th grade). These three enhancements all compliments of the Castle Hills Education Foundation. Third grade traveled to Elm Fork at UNT, 4th grade went to LISDOLA, and Kindergarten went to the zoo. I hope your parent/teacher conferences have been a positive experience and that you are learning how your students are progressing and ways that you can continue helping both your children and teachers. Our fall College/Career day was wonderful. A big thank you to those of you who participated in sharing your knowledge with our students.

Our first nine-week Rise and Shine was fantastic and was led by our Rise and Shine student crew. These students did a wonderful job leading our all campus Rise and Shine.  The annual Candy Lane Carnival put on by the PTA was a great success as usual. First grade had their traditional 50’s day for the 50th day of school. Students in kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade were entertained by the Lewisville Fire Department Clown and learned about fire safety. Fifth graders went all out designing a float for the HHS Homecoming Parade. The parade had to be cancelled because of the rain but the activities were moved inside. Castle Hills won 1st place for elementary school floats!  Congratulations to Castle Hills and all of the 5th graders that participated.

Coming up this week is our annual tree planting sponsored by the PTA and Green Meadow Landscaping and our 2nd annual Veterans Day Lunch. If you are a Veteran or have relatives that are Veteran’s we would love you to come eat lunch with your son and/or daughter. This lunch is just like our Grandparent’s Day lunch. Veterans bring lunch and eat with your son and/or daughter.  We are again putting up a flag with the names of veterans on stars. I hope you have sent in your stars.

Every year I share with you how I personally love the month of November. There is crispness (at least some of the time in North Texas) in the air and the leaves are changing colors. Well, here in North Texas the colors are not the same as they are in the northeast but they change colors all the same. To me, November is also synonymous with family. November is also the start of the holiday season, which is always a joyous time spent with family and friends. Since I will not have another newsletter article before Thanksgiving, let me take this time to wish you a wonderful, safe and happy holiday with your family and friends.

THE FUN STUFF (AND WHY WE'RE HERE)

This month we would like to honor Doris Forero for helping Mrs. Sulak, our STEM teacher!  Doris volunteers at CHE each week and helps Mrs. Sulak get ready for all the fun activities she does in STEM.  Thank you so much Doris for volunteering your time!  We all appreciate it so much!

Volunteer of the Month Spotlight: Let’s Get to Know Doris Forero!
  • Family: We came to the US 6 years ago with my husband Ariel and my two kids Sara (11) and Juan (9). We are a multinational family my husband and I are Colombians and our kids were born in Peru while my husband was working over there for about five years.
  • If I could go back in time, I would like to have dinner with:  I would like to have dinner with an Ancient Greek family surrounded by all these impressive greek traditions and dressing old Greek style fashion.
  • I have always wanted to: Learn how to cook Japanese food, especially sushi.
  • My favorite place to travel: I have wanted to go to Tahiti. All my life I have been attracted by its beaches.
  • My favorite activity with my children/family is: My favorite activity with my family nowadays is going camping, especially in spring and fall.

My Name is Anushka Anoop and I’m in 1st grade. My favorite thing about being in this grade that I get to do daily five and I get to go to the motor lab. My homeroom teacher is Ms.Taylor. She is the best teacher. My favorite thing about my teacher is that she is really nice. She lets us do free choices in the class.

The Name of program is “GREAT EXPECTATIONS”. GREAT EXPECTATIONS are rules/things that you follow to be a good student like not laughing at your friend’s mistakes, cheering our friends when they succeed, saying thank you and holding the door for others.

My favorite thing about the program is that we learn good manners, be kind to others and be happy. It’s very easy to follow the expectations and be a good student, hence everyone should participate in this program.

PTA's mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
