SUBJECT: Castle Courier Vol. 17, No. 17 - April 1, 2019

Volume XVII, Issue 17 - April 1, 2019

It’s here…the last 9 weeks of school!  This is a bitter sweet moment for my family.  My oldest son is excited because this is his last semester until he is officially a middle schooler, and this will be my last semester as your PTA President. Luckily, the PTA has a lot of exciting activities planned right until the last few days of school.

I am sending positive thoughts to our 4th and 5th grade students and teachers as this week is the first round of STAAR.  The PTA will be providing a small snack for the students each testing day.  Please make sure they get plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast.  I know they are prepared to do their best!

Last week, there were so many activities at the school including the Book Fair, Kinder/New Student registration, book studies, class/spring pictures, preparation for the LISD Art Show, and the PTA General meeting.  A huge thank you to all the volunteers that made each event a success.  I hope the students enjoyed the book fair and were able to purchase some great new books (and maybe some trinkets and posters, too!).  Also, please find some time over the next couple weeks to check out the LISD Art Show at the Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater.  Starting this weekend, art work from CHE and other elementary schools will be on display.

Thank you to all the 3rd graders who attended the PTA General Meeting and brought a book character to life.  This was the second year that the 3rd grade hosted the PTA general meeting and created a “Living Library.”  Each 3rd grade participant dressed up as a book character and prepared a speech to describe the character and the book.  The performances were amazing!

Our new PTA Officers for the 2019-20 school year were elected at the PTA General meeting.  Congratulations to Carly Dunson (President), Kelly Little (1st VP of Programs), Nicole Schneekloth (2nd VP Ways & Means), Sheena Fannin (3rd VP of Communications), Neetu Rainwater (Treasurer), Meredith Hagedorn (Secretary), & Annie Sharp (Parliamentarian).  I am looking forward to next year under their leadership.

If you are looking to volunteer but aren’t sure what you would like to do, please reach out to me or anyone on the PTA Board.  We can always find a place for your talent, this year or next year!

Truly,

Nina Samuel

The PTA Volunteer Program is one of the best ways that parents can support the students and staff at our school.

Please review the brief descriptions of each volunteer area and indicate your preliminary interests. Your contact information will then be forwarded to the CHE PTA board member or committee chair that is in charge of that activity.  Someone will be in touch with you soon.

Please be aware that Board Policy requires that each volunteer undergoes a background check before working with students.  You will need to complete the background check during your VOLY account creation process. Go to VOLY now to get started:

THE FUN STUFF (AND WHY WE'RE HERE)

My name is Sofia Emily Mroski and I am in Fourth Grade. It is an honor to be in Fourth Grade because we got to go to Austin!!!! My Homeroom Teacher is Mr. Henderson and my favorite thing about Mr. Henderson is that he is the BEST, he is so nice and funny and I am very lucky to have Mr. Henderson as my teacher. I am in Breanna’s Buddies and I love the group because you get to welcome others to their new and awesome school, all you need to do to participate is sign a sheet and then you might be one of the lucky people! Other people should join this group because once everybody joins then everybody has helped make the world a better place.

PTA's mission is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
