I hope everyone had a successful first nine weeks. Most of you have probably had the opportunity to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s). I encourage you to participate in these parent/teacher meetings as this is a great opportunity for you to ask questions directly about your child’s progress. And please continue to ask questions and/or send compliments to their teacher throughout the school year. Communication is an important key to building relationships and having a successful school year. THANK YOU to everyone who donated to the One & Done fundraising campaign! Because of your generosity, we met our initial goal, and our 2018-2019 budget is now fully funded. We had a celebration for all the students which included our top contributors from each grade getting to slime Mr. Johnson and Ms. Umanzor during a school-wide assembly. Please check out the photos and video on our Facebook page. And if you did not get the chance to participate in our campaign, you are still able to donate throughout the year. Any money collected over our initial goal will be used to purchase the school a gift. This year, we are hoping to purchase additional playground equipment. One of the programs that benefits from our fundraiser is the PTA Faculty/Staff Grant program. We are in the process of reviewing requests from our teachers who apply for items/services to enhance the students learning experience. In the past, the PTA has granted requests for field trips, books for classroom libraries, ukuleles for music, and technology for running club, to name a few. Stay tuned for the award announcements in November. This week is Red Ribbon Week at the Castle. The theme for the week is “Life Is Your Journey. Travel Drug Free.†We have a lot of fun activities planned intertwined with teaching students to make healthy decisions. Tomorrow, we have a special assembly planned with Team Big Air performing a slam dunk basketball show. Students will also be making a pledge to stay drug free on Tuesday. I encourage you to use the parent talking points in the Tuesday Newsday folder and discuss what that means to them. I hope everyone enjoyed the Fall Carnival this past Friday. Congratulations to all our gift basket winners. And special thanks to our Special Event coordinator Nicole Schneekloth and her “Carnie Crew†for all their volunteer hours and making the Carnival a fun, family event. We appreciate you! Don’t forget that Wednesday, October 24 is Spirit Night at Purple Tako. In addition, it is Hebron High School’s Homecoming parade. Come support our 5th grade float in the Hebron parade and grab dinner afterwards at Purple Tako! Hoping the rain slows down, so we can all enjoy this fall season. And as always, please reach out to me with any questions or suggestions. Truly, Nina Samuel CHEPTA President 2017-19

| THE FUN STUFF (AND WHY WE'RE HERE) | |

My Name: Shasa Shrestha
My Grade: 5th
My Homeroom Teacher: Mrs Robertson
Name of Event: Running Club
Why you should be in Running Club
Running club is one of the many programs Castle Hills Elementary offers this program is lead by Coach Huppe and takes place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings.
Running club helps you become more active, this is one reason you should participate in it. Running a few days a week or even just a day a week will help you build a more healthy lifestyle as you grow up. When you become an adult you will start to run more often increasing your chance of a longer, healthier life.
Another reason to enroll is because you will be more awake and energized in class. Most days you may want sleep while your teacher is talking but if you go to Running Club in the morning as you start to run the blood will start pumping and you can stretch your muscles because of this you will become wide awake as you start running, so that will help you to stay awake in school.
Running Club will also help your confidence. At running club you will make new friends all across the grades who will encourage you, as you run more you will start to feel awesome about yourself and you will feel more confident as your miles grow at the end of the year you may win a pin, when you do is when you will feel really good about Running Club.
Here are some reasons I love going to Running Club and why you should join everyone should get a chance to have as much fun as I do at Running Club. (Remember to check out the other cool programs CHE offers!)
