SUBJECT: Castle Courier Vol. 17, No. 19 - April 29, 2019

Volume XVII, Issue 19 - April 29, 2019

If your kids are anything like mine, the countdown has begun…less than 20 days until summer vacation! These last few months have gone quickly, and I am looking forward to sunny days and relaxation.

As we enter into the last few weeks of school, there are still many upcoming events at the Castle starting with Camp Wanna Read.  This week, your child(ren) will go “camping” during their library time.  The students always look forward to reading in the big tents by the campfire.  In addition, our last General Meeting is on Thursday, May 9th at 6:30 pm.  During that evening, we will have the Killian preview for 5th grade parents, representatives from the Carrollton public library to discuss their summer reading program (& sign up for a library card), and Mrs. Stroud will be selling ceramic bowls made by our 5th grade students.  And to finish that evening, Mr. Isom and the Snapping Dragons will perform a musical presentation of RATS!  We hope you stay and enjoy the show – popcorn is on us.

In addition, please be sure to check the PTA calendar at chepta.net for the date and time for Field Day, Teacher Appreciation Week, PTA’s Bingo Night, Reading Counts parties, Dragon Award Ceremonies, and End of year parties.

We also have many special events planned for our 5th graders.  5th grade parents, please note that the 5th Grade Transition Talk was rescheduled to this Wednesday, May 1st at 6:30pm.

Finally, as you know, our principal Mrs. Taylor is retiring at the end of this school year.  She has been our leader at the Castle for the last 7 years.  We invite you to celebrate her on Thursday, May 16, 4 – 6 pm at the Queen Margaret Community Center.  Come wish her well and remind her that Once a Dragon, Always a Dragon.

Please remember to take a moment to enjoy this last busy 20 days of school.  And as always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or feedback.

Truly,

Nina Samuel
CHE PTA President
2017-2019

NEW CHE Host Families Program

CHE PTA is piloting a program in 2019-2020 where, when new 1st-5th grade families come to the school, they have the option of being assigned to 2 volunteer Host/current families that have students in similar grades. These host families would actively reach out to the parents on a regular basis to help them assimilate into the new school and make sure the parents are getting what they need. The goal is that the new families will have a primary person that they can contact with questions and a friendly face on campus.

Interested in being a host family or want to know more? Please click here or feel free to email me at waysquared@gmail.com with any questions.

Good morning LISD PTA members!!! There are currently over 18,200 PTA members in LISD which represents over 3.5% of the State of Texas. Thank you for strong dedication and support.

The Texas PTA mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. In an effort to better support the great things that are happening around the district, the Council of PTAs is conducting a PTA Family Survey. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this survey and allowing us to make our schools and the PTA stronger. Deadline for your submission is May 3rd!

Can't remember what Programs and Events we host throughout the year that are your most or least favorite? Go to CHEPTA.NET and look under Programs and Events!

The PTA Volunteer Program is one of the best ways that parents can support the students and staff at our school.

Please review the brief descriptions of each volunteer area and indicate your preliminary interests. Your contact information will then be forwarded to the CHE PTA board member or committee chair that is in charge of that activity.  Someone will be in touch with you soon.

Please be aware that Board Policy requires that each volunteer undergoes a background check before working with students.  You will need to complete the background check during your VOLY account creation process. Go to VOLY now to get started:

My name is Reyna Daniels and I am in 5th Grade. My homeroom teachers is Ms. Karnes. Ms. Karnes is the most incredible teacher in the universe. I love 5th Grade because we get to be leaders in the school. I want to tell you about the Kindness Club. My best friend and I came up with the idea at recess one day and told our teachers. Ms. Taylor supported our idea and even helped us write a grant request to the CHE Foundation! That was so exciting! We also got to present our idea to all the teachers at their meeting.

The purpose of the club is to encourage kindness and spread happiness around the school. 3rd - 5th graders can participate in the club. We do several activities around the school including the Kindness bucket, giving out Spirit Sticks to students that have been kind, and participate in the International Day of Happiness. We meet every Friday. My favorite thing about the club is that we get to be kindness cheerleaders for the school and support the Great Expectations. Everyone should join the club to make the world a kinder place to live!
