Welcome back, CHE Dragons! And a special welcome to all our new CHE families. We are so glad you are here. I hope everyone has enjoyed these summer days and had a chance to spend time with family and friends.

Your PTA Board members have had a productive summer planning another amazing year filled with events and programs focused on strengthening the relationships among our school, community, parents and students. I hope you have enjoyed our increased social media presence including our members sharing pictures of their summer adventures. Thank you for those that have shared your pictures and memories. We hope to continue these interactive efforts throughout the year.

Please visit our website at CHEPTA.net to discover the various programs and events already being planned. But more importantly, please JOIN the PTA! Your contribution, whether it is your time, knowledge, or resources makes a difference. We invite you to become an involved member at the Castle.

I am also enthusiastic to share that based on member feedback, we are taking a different approach to our fundraising efforts. This year, we are focused on simplicity and ensuring that 100% of all donations remain at CHE by participating in a check writing campaign. Stay tuned for more information within the coming weeks.

Join us Thursday, September 21st at 6:30 in the CHE Cafeteria as we kick off the first PTA Meeting of the year with an ice cream social and a 1st grade performance! This meeting is for everyone, so please come and learn how to get more involved in your PTA.

Thank you for helping in any way you can, and showing your children the importance you place on their education. Working together we will have a wonderful year filled with learning, building relationships, and celebrating our successes. On behalf of the PTA Executive Board, we wish everyone a productive year ahead and look forward to your continued support. If you have any questions, please contact me at cnina76@hotmail.com.

Truly,

Welcome (back) to school. This is my sixteenth year at the castle and I think I learn as much as the students each year. Much of the learning comes from my students!

As parents, sending your child to school can be a bit daunting. New clothes, new shoes, haircuts, immunizations, just to name a few of the stressors. For students the stressors are a bit different. Will the teacher like me, or vise versa? Will I have any friends in my class? And so on.

The best thing parents can do is have a positive attitude. Make sure to ask good questions when the students come home. Instead of “Yes/No”, ask you child to “Tell me about…” This can end with thing like: a story you read, a funny thing that happened, a friend you met.

Tell me questions give you a lot more information. But, ask it at a time your child is ready to talk. Sometimes right after a busy day children need time to decompress just as adults do. You might want to wait until you sit down to dinner. Maybe a good time is after you get home and the child has a snack. Ask at a time you are also ready to really listen. Just five-ten minutes of good listening can help whatever your child is feeling become a bonding experience for you.

You might want to wait until you sit down to dinner. Ask at a time you are also ready to really listen. Just five-ten minutes of good listening can help whatever your child is feeling become a bonding experience for you. Your child will feel as though their day matters to you. This five minutes will have long term affects and your child will continue to have open communication with you as they grow.

An open line of communication teaches your child confidence, self-importance and good communication skills. Have a wonderful year.

THE FUN STUFF a.k.a. "Why We're All Here"

Hi, my name is Kate Buesing. I am in 4th grade. My teacher’s name is Mrs. Magana. My favorite thing about being in 4th grade is the field trip to Austin and meeting our new specials teacher. The best things about great Expectations are that you can be a leader and help other people to respect each other. They also help us remember to be ourselves and like everyone for who they are. My favorite part about the great Expectations is that it teaches us to try new things and cheer on our friends when they try new things. Students should follow the great Expectations because they help us to be leaders and build confidence in ourselves and others.

The 8 Great Expectations… What are they and what do they do?
My name is Noorain Aziz and I will be explaining just that. I am in the fifth grade and I love it because I can be a role model for the rest of the school. My teacher is Mrs. Canida. She is a caring, kind,& loving teacher and is always happy and encouraging. I am super excited being in her class and am looking forward to a wonderful year.

The great expectations were first introduced to Castle Hills in 2014 and what do they represent? They represent 8 expectations we should follow in our school. The expectations are:
- We will value one another as unique and special individuals.
- We will not laugh at or make fun of a person's mistake or use sarcasm or put-downs.
- We will use good manners saying “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me” and allow others to go first.
- We will cheer each other to success.
- We will help one another whenever possible.
- We will recognize every effort and applaud it.
- We will encourage each other to do our best.
- We will practice virtuous living using the life principles.

What you do with these expectations is follow them to make the school a more friendly environment and provide a model of courtesy and respect.

The next question is how are the expectations followed in the classroom? When they were first introduced, I was in second grade. What we did was valued other people’s space and work, use good manners at all times, and practice life principals.

We would practice the life principle of courtesy by greeting a person who knocked on the door with great respect. The hallway expectations were to be quiet to respect other people working.

At specials, we would always obey instructions so that we can easily do what we want to do. Then when it's time to leave, we do whatever the teacher tells us to do. That way we can exit quickly and get to class without disturbing people working.
At lunch, we will be silent for the first and last 5 minutes so we can exit and enter quickly without disturbing other grades entering and exiting. Then at recess when it's time to leave we get into our lines to get back to class.
Whenever we have a fire drill we quickly exit the building silently and make sure everybody is safe outside in case of a real fire.

What makes these great eight so amazing is that they can be used everywhere. At home and anywhere you go. These expectations will not only make the school but also the world a better place
